COVID Vessels in Perth: July – August 2021 Updates

  • Three crew members from MV Darya Krishna tested positive to COVID-19. St. John Ambulance and special operations took the crew members to Fiona Stanley Hospital.
  • However, two WA healthcare workers will have to isolate themselves in a hotel for 14 days because of the COVID-19 breach caused by a faulty lift at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
  • The two WA healthcare workers are not vaccinated since they decided not to take the vaccine.
  • The healthcare workers, who were transferring one of the sick crew members, used a faulty lift. Therefore, they must be quarantined for 14 days in a hotel.
  • The remaining mariners will be tested for COVID-19 since eight mariners have reported flu-like symptoms. Six mariners have been moved to quarantine in a hotel. They have been moved to protect themselves from contracting the virus.
  • Even though six crew members tested negative for the virus, four of them returned a positive serology test. This means the crew members have previously contracted and recovered from COVID-19.
  • Eleven crew members remain on the vessel. Six of the crew members have tested positive for COVID-19. However, they remain on board since they are stable to self-isolate in their cabins.
  • MV Darya Krishna made stops in Indonesia on the way to Western Australia. Therefore, it is suspected that the mariners contracted COVID-19 when they made these stops. The vessel is now at Fremantle Port in WA.
  • According to Mr Cook, the vessels originating from Indonesia pose a major risk to the country, especially to the West Australian community.

If you have a vessel at one of the ports in West Australia, you might want to deep clean and disinfect your vessel to stop the spread of the virus. It is better to hire professional cleaners to protect yourself from the virus.
