Tips For Restoring Water Damaged Carpets

There are many classes and categories of water damage. You may have a leaking pipe in your home that floods the floor. A leaking roof may also let rainwater into the house and flood the house. If your drains are clogged, your toilet, bathroom and kitchen drain may overflow and spew wastewater to the floor. At times, the sewer system may get backed up and release the effluent into your property. Whatever the cause of the flooding, your carpets will be the most affected as they will soak up the water and start rotting. The following are tips for carpet water damage restoration:

1. Assess the Problem

Before you can do anything about water damage, be sure to assess the situation. Remember to also take pictures to document the water damage for insurance purposes.

2. Improve indoor air circulation to assist with drying times

When you find your home or business premise flooded, the first thing you should do is get rid of the free-standing water. Next, remove as much surface water as possible as this will be able to mitigate water damage. Consider renting a high-power drying fan to speed up the drying process of the floor and carpet.

3. Use a Dehumidifier

It is important to note that carpets may still be wet and damp after the drying process. To ensure all the water molecules have been removed, there is special equipment you can use to absorb the water molecules, being a dehumidifier. This will go a long way in ensuring the high moisture content in the room is contained.

4. Steam Clean the Carpet

Carpet fibres and backing can easily be damaged by water. If you act fast, however, you can save the carpet. Please note that the underlay of the carpet can easily be replaced cost-effectively. After steam-cleaning, the carpet must be deodorized.

5. Dry and Sanitize Walls and Baseboards

High humidity can still cause damage to your carpet fibres and backing. Therefore, you should dry and sanitise walls and baseboards to ensure your new backing will not develop mould. Ideally, you should hire a competent Perth-based water damage restoration firm to deal with the problem. You can contact Kleen Slate Services immediately.
